Congratulations to Dr. Carolina Camargo on her recent publication in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology!

Together with our fantastic collaborators at the RI-MUHC, Carolina showed that diverse human coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2, are highly susceptible to germicidal UV (GUV) light. Moreover, we show that inactivation of human coronaviruses on N95 masks can be achieved using commercially-scalable GUV devices. Our results suggest that GUV light may be an effective means to inactivate coronaviruses on personal protective equipment in hospital settings, enabling their safe reuse in times of shortages.
